The Faculty of Science at the University of Bern invites applications for a Professor in Laser Physics (100% employment level, open-rank) opening on February 1, 2025, or earlier, at the Institute for Applied Physics (IAP). In case of an appointment as Assistant Professor tenure track, the conversion to a permanent position of Associate Professor will occur at the latest after six years.

The Institute of Applied Physics (IAP) was founded on June 2nd, 1961 as part of the faculty of natural sciences. Today about 56 employees research and teach in four divisions focusing on Biomedical Photonics, Laser Physics, Nonlinear Optics and Microwave Physics.

TasksThe successful candidate is expected to build an internationally distinguished research program, potentially in synergy with the Swiss FEL free electron laser on the optical control of quantum materials. The successful candidate will also play a leading role in advancing research, teaching, and leadership within our department.RequirementsThe successful candidate should have a strong research background in ultrafast physics with a focus on ultrafast light-matter interactions.
